  • Thank fans for this completist's dream: they petitioned the remaining members of the Sublime, a decade after Bradley Nowell's death by misadventure, to disgorge this collection of rarities, outtakes, and unreleased material. While a little overwhelming in its sheer volume, it deftly illustrates what a compelling shape-shifter Nowell was, even during his most discombobulated and boozy moments. Those unvarnished moments are captured here--taken from backstage parties, live radio shows, and their very first demos--along with some of the bands' more formed moments, whether sharing a stage with Gwen Stefani or being remixed by Long Beach crony Snoop Dogg before he became Top Dogg. Whether channeling the acerbic and fearless sound of Bad Brains (H.R. appears here on a cover of his "Shame in Dem Game"), duplicating the vocal idiosyncrasies and guitar angst of Jimi Hendrix on a song like "Voodoo (Part 2)," or inhabiting the righteous ire of "Catch a Fire" Bob Marley, this collection is a sonic history of a band in the process of becoming one the more seminal purveyors of ska punk, and multiplatinum artists as a result. An evolutionary history, really, this exhaustive collection includes some rather revelatory film footage, including an impish MTV interview prior to their Warped Tour appearance and another one conducted in tandem with Washington, D.C., hardcore avatars Minor Threat. --Jaan Uhelszki

    Customer Reviews:
  • Thank You
I believe that regardless what rareities are not available on this album, it is truly epic. I agree with a fellow poster that this is equal to a beatles anthology for sublime fans. I can't stress how much I appreciate the remastered work and the effort that it took to get this into a beautiful box set. I once again own , not one , but 3 new sublime discs to listen to all day and night. The only thing I disagree with on most of the posts is that I feel the music might be oriented for hardcore fans, but one could very much become hardcore if they appreciate the "main stream" tunes.

  • Sweeeeet
My only complaint is that the song "Lou dog went to the moon" was not included on the CD or DVD but other than that only one word to describe ---CLASSIC----

  • it's goood!
i really dig this boxset but i am bit disapointed that some songs were left out, but like almost every other true sublime fan, i like those on a cd with their crappy audio intact. the dvd was cool but i was also hoping for more stuff like a home video type thing with footage of the band we've never seen before. you get to see some studio stuff in the videos but it doesn't seem like enough. anyway, i'm just happy that a sublime boxset is out. this is a great christmas gift for anyone who loves sublime. it's more then worth the 50 dollars.

  • Almost everything under the sun
I agree with the previous reviews..the album is ONLY for the truest and hardcore of Sublime fans. Non-fans or casual fans will immediately be turned off by the live sound quality and will not be able to look beyond it to understand Sublime's genius talent of superbly talented improvisational performances and songwriting. My only complaint is that the title of the album is a lie. Die hard Sublime fans know all the unreleased songs, and a few of their best were not included in this box set. Case in point, romantic girl, bandolero, pass me the lazerbeam, world of inflation, MTM, total hate (with Gwen Stefani) and kingstep. Personally, it doesn't bother me that those songs were not included because I already have them and have been listening to them on a regular basis for years. But I believe those songs would have been the clinching factor for any new or curious fans to truly grasp to uniqueness and originality that flew through the band mates of this Long Beach trio. But all in all, good effort, near perfection...let Bradley Nowell's spirit carry on to the next millenium.

    "Lord have his grilled cheese,"

  • A lot of this stuff isn't even on bootlegs
I can tell you for sure because I have all of them, and people who claim this aren't listening b/c these are a lot, of if not mostly, different versions or completely unheard. It's kind of cool (some may think) to be like "yeah I already have these songs", you'll hear a lot of that. But believe me, I have all the bootlegs and this box set right here is a gold mine. So ENJOY because hell has officially frozen over :D
