Customer Reviews:
Good, if you are upgrading from a Gameboy! When I first held the DS in my hands it reminded why Nintendo is a lost cause. Good for them that they are selling like hotcakes but you get what you pay for. After seeing what's now available on the PSP I just cannot fathom how people can still stomach Super Mario XCVIII when games like Super Ghost N Goblins, the Sega museum, Grand Theft Auto, etc. are available for the PSP. Now with the option of being able to access your PS3 with a PSP, expect more PSP sales. If you like simple games and cannot afford something better, go for a DS. If you're a hardcore gamer, you cannot go wrong with a PSP, especially since it's finally getting AAA games. --2006-12-19Great system I like the Nintendo DS so much. I allways liked nintendo. I remember when I was like 4,5 and 6 my mom and dad would play it. This is a great system for many reasons. First it is built very well. The system feels very strong and you really feel like you get your moneys worth. I bought mine and it took like 8 months for the battery to die. I play it maybe like 4 hours in two weeks. When the battery does die it is easy to just plug in and charge. Also the games are great. Nintendo may be deemed a kids system but I am 21 and I love it. I of course own evey system but my favorites are nintendo and playstation. Nintendo is great because you know they will have great games. Every Nintendo system has amazing games that you can play for hours and hours. Even for years and years. Like the original Mario. Also the wifi is SO easy to get set up and it is easy to get connected with other players. I t is also easy to get a friends code and add him to your friends list. Finally the DS is such a great price for everything you get. This system will be great for a child, teen or adult who wants something to carry around with them that they can do for fun at any time. Stay away from PSP. All the games they ahve out for that system and the only one I like is Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops. --2006-12-19Nintendo DS Lite: Hands On Review The purpose of this hopefully objective review is to offer both pros and cons to the system. Remember there is no such thing as a perfect system so I'll try to be objective where applicable. Now lets get to it.
#1 Presentation
Nintendo's DS platform has been the best selling platform to date for the company anyone who has played one can tell you why! Nintendo has pulled out all the stops for the DS Lite. Overall the presentation of the technology is wonderful. The box is beautifully elegant and a pleasure to look at. Very modern yet with that classy Nintendo charm. The box contains the standard items, all very well packaged and ready to go.
The system itself is very presentable. I really love the shiny glossy coverings on the outer shell of the unit. Really adds that special bit of flair. Very sleek simple lines make for a very graceful smooth yet modern looking piece if hardware. Open the tightly closing clamshell and you'll see more smooth design features that make the DS a real looker...even before it's turned on. The Lite will have you reeled in before you even switch it on.
#2 Performance
This one is a little tricky to evaluate. Functionality is virtually the same as the original DS console. However the new wrappings make the Lite much easier to use and hold. The screens also really make games pop, I mean pop! My old games from my original DS look brand new on the Lite, literally. New Super Mario Brothers really took my breath away. The game is not only brighter, but the colors are much more rich, contrast better and give off an amazing clarity and crisp smooth appearance. This is truly what the DS should have been 2 years ago at launch.
The battery should be more than enough to power the screens. Although I have not tested this first hand, others online have. So far so good.
The buttons...ok here is where I'm a little fussy. The buttons are the same size as on the original but they are grouped a little closer together. With my fat thumbs I tended to hit multiple buttons on accident. I'm sure this is something I will get the feel for mind you so please excuse my nit picking. I feel the same way about the d-pad. It sits up higher and rocks more (so do the buttons). A little different feel. It feels good (so do the buttons) but different than the stiffer and clickier feel that I am used too. These are much more like a mushy console button. I will only need to get the feel of the Lite. Then look out! The shoulder buttons are also a little smaller but still have the clicky feeling. All in all the Lite does feel good to hold and play (amazingly comfortable!) but I will have to become accustomed to the new feel over the feel of the older DS. This will be my first challenge.
#3 The total package: Closing remarks
I LOVE THE DS LITE. Since the first time I held it, it stole my heart. I can't believe how good it feels in my hands. So natural. I thought it would be a little harder to hold than the older beefier unit, but really it seems to nestle itself into my grip much easier. I can foresee many painless Mario Kart marathons coming on...
I am absolutely blown away with the platform as a whole. It made my old games look and feel new. The Lite doesn't feel like an improved DS, it feels like the next DS. That's saying a lot... --2006-12-181002 uses!!! I pretend it's a Mac. I pretend it's a Blackberry. I pretend it's a communicator from Star Trek. And Star Wars. And the Justice League. I pretend it's a diary. "Dear Diary, today Condi smiled at me. I think she likes me". I pretend it's an ammo clip. I pretend it's full of Benjamins (that's $100 bills for all you rubes out there). I pretend it holds condoms. That I'll use with Condi! Yeah. I pretend it's a satellite (sp. ?) link to a spy satellite (sp. ?) when I'm advising the President on Iraq strategy. --2006-12-17Must get 2006 don't have one of these hot gadgets yet but i will this christmas its nice Lighter and brighter i heard it looks like Apple I pod cause the size of it! and i heard it looks like Microsoft to everybody is talking how it looks their is soft buttons and their is going to be a Browser so you can surf the internet this may come out the end of the year
