Customer Reviews:
Great computer, fast, easy to use. This computer works great and is a great deal. I bought a G5 Imac, almost the exact same computer and my kids use it all the time, and so do I. Highly recommended! --2006-12-16I love my IMAC but check out local colleges before buying on here... So if any of you are close to a major university that sells MACs you will be able to find this exact computer for 699-799 and if you are looking for the SuperDrive than 949. This is a great machine and worth every penny to me but if you are looking to save a bit more money check out an apple certified college or university! --2006-12-11Almost Perfect I received my computer today. What a joy!
Noticed that it had two 256 mb memory chips
rather than the one 512 mb single. A bit of
a bummer when upgrading because there are no
extra slots. Amazon misrepresented this.
Just my two cents worth.
Update: December 7th - Amazon issued a credit of $90 for the
misguided information. I am extremely happy with their offer
of compensation. Five stars now ***** --2006-12-06Caveat Emptor Mac -- let the buyer beware of bad Apples! I'm just trying to help people with this review, OK?
I hate to think different and part company with the crowd, but here's my experience with the iMac. Blame the product designer or assemblers not the messenger. If Apple has made the appropriate redesigns (and I sure hope they have), this review may not be current -- just don't expect too much and don't sell your backup computer for a while.
I too was a Mac Fanatic (40% of my computers have been Apples) and looked forward to this slick cool computer when I bought mine (I'd have given it five stars then). Soon after my purchase, and despite taking care of it and installing nothing more radical than Mac's antivirus program and a surge protector, it frequently crashed, froze, lost data, failed to turn on, and suddenly quit, and I no longer trusted it for anything but elementary word processing and net surfing. It has been in the shop (an authorized Apple dealer around for many years) for major repairs several times, although in all fairness it has sometimes gone as long as three weeks without major problems. A refund or replacement by Apple? Fuhgeddaboudit. From other reveiews for this system this is not an isolated problem. It seems like the Mac is like a Mercedes -- fun to look at and way cool but don't lose the number to the repair shop.
If you want to buy one that's cool but I would urge you to: 1. Always back up every single thing; 2.Buy locally, to make it easier to bring it in for repairs; 3. Understand your store's refund policy and specifically ask them what they will do if you have continued problems after a few months; 4.Have a backup computer; 5.Do get the extended warranty. I hope this helps and hope your luck is better than mine -- keep in mind that other computers are not trouble free. --2006-12-04Fun Out of The Box There's a myth out there that Apple makes products that are just too expensive compared to Windows PCs. But costing well under 1000 dollars, this all in one computer is well worth it. First off, everything is in the screen, there is no desktop tower or seperate components to deal with. Second, Apple makes computers fun out-of-the-box. Being able to plug in a digital camera and not have to deal with installing any drivers is a welcome change. Programs for managing your photos, music, movies, calendar, website, and addressbook are all there by default. I had no problems with setting the iMac up, and have had no hardware problems to date. This computer has made my personal computer life much more enjoyable. --2006-11-24
