    Customer Reviews:
  • Good, light weight, portable scanner!
I bought 3 of these because they are light weight, easy to pack, and scan quite well for class/office/on-the-fly!

I plan on using my new one with my laptop for class. I can easily store it & hide it so you don't even know it's there. Hide it, you say? Yes! Because it stores between books & things in an upright position if necessary. And if hidden properly, people won't 'borrow' it & forget to give it back. This way, I don't have to hunt one down at work/school to use. It fits in most backpacks and it's a good scan for what you need. Fits easily in a 10x13 padded envelope or bigger. This way it will be overlooked and safe from prying hands & busy minds!! LOL!!

Definitely makes a good gift & the price is right. I put this on my Gift List of things I don't have to think about. I can just buy it & know it won't end up regifted, in the trash, or the Salvation Army bin!!

It's a keeper! Buy this you'll like it & you won't give it away!!

  • It works!
    Positives
    * Very lightweight and portable
    * Installation and setup was nice and simple
    * Scanning quality has so far been better than I feared for such an inexpensive scanner. So far, it's been able to scan documents that I had written in pencil (YES!).
    * Haven't had any problems picking up newspaper text, maps, or photos. Resolution has been good.
    * One button to scan, no preview.
    * Scan time about 45 seconds. This puts it on par with the higher quality scanners that do have a preview.

    Negatives
    * For such an amazing piece of technology, they had to use cheap plastic to attach the cover to the flatbed. Probably not a big deal, and I don't think it's in any danger of breaking, but still, it was the first thing I noticed upon opening it up.
    * I don't know why, but if you save the initial image as a jpg/jpeg file, you can't open it up on paint. You have to either (a) open it with any other program, or (b) save it as a different format (bmp, png, etc), then open it with paint, and THEN save it as a jpg. Then Paints opens its homemade jpg just fine.
    * I'm hesitant to give such an inexpensive scanner 5 stars, even though it beats expectations so far. I don't want to jinx it.

  • Very nice, for the price
Scanned over 175 (4x6) color photos in just under 2 hours (WOW!).

I had to replace my old Lexmark All-in-one unit to finish off a project for Christmas. This is just what I needed at an affordable price. The powered USB cable is great, considering I had no space left for yet another power cord, nice little added feature.

Very slim, less than 2 inches high. Also has "Advanced Z-lid expansion top" for scanning images from boxes or other bulky items.

The only problem is it only scans upto 600 dpi, not really an issue, but even my old Lexmark scanned upto 2400dpi - but hey, this was less than $50, so I'm not complaining.

Props to Amazon for getting to my door within 12 hours from order time!

  • Do NOT Buy
I purchased this scanner and was highly dissappointed! The scan quality is HORRIBLE! Their were rainbowy effects, lines, crosshatching, blotches just terrible!! Tries calling Canon support and were of no help, dodn't even want to talk to me and tried to puch me off even though I had warranty and everything.. The scanner takes forever to scan also, like 4 minutes and makes a loud icky noise when doing so.

  • An excellent scanner, and so affordable
I love this scanner. The best features are:

    1. I've scanned hundreds of photos and it never would have been possible without the multi-scan feature. You can lay 3-4 photos on the scanning bed and the multi-scan feature will save them as separate image files and even straighten them for you. The only problem is that if you lay a photo at the ver top of the scanning bed, it gets cut off, so that you have to leave about an inch of empty space at the top. Occasionally it will detect two photos as one and you will need to rescan - but this can usually be avoided by making sure the photos don't lie too close together
    2. It is so slim and can live on my desk without making it look cluttered. If you don't have space on your desk, it is lightweight and slim enough to store in a nearby closet without being too much of a hassle.
    3. You don't need to plug it into an outlet, just a USB port - this is great for 2 reasons: the first is that power strips are usually so crowded with plugs, it is one less thing to have to jam in there, and also if you are storing it in a closet you don't have to get behind your desk to plug it in. The second is probably not important to everyone, but we live overseas right now, and it's nice to know that when we move back we won't need to buy any kind of plug adaptor or converter to keep using it.
    4. The software that comes with is handy and simple to set up and lets you select a file name that it gives to each file in the whole group you just scanned as a base name and attaches a 1,2,3,etc after the name. Maybe all scanning software does this, but I find that very handy for organizing my files.

When I scan, I'm not usually in the biggest rush, I just scan while I'm doing other things so i don't pay too much attention to how fast it scans, but I think it's about a minute to scan a bed full of photos (3-4 depending on photo size).

Overall, a great purchase and I would definitely recommend.
