    • Pediatrician recommended (as published in Pediatrics, April 2000)
    • Fits any standard crib
    • Filter removes over 90% of airborne allergens
    • Wrap-around mattress pad offers a secure fit
  • Sids Alliance 2006-03-19 An earlier review implied this mattress was not reccomended by the SIDS Alliance 'First Candle Program' but this is not correct. <br /> <br />You can check it out on the SIDS Alliance website yourself: http://www.sidsalliance.org/gifts/gifts.html <br /> <br />Here is the text on the site regarding HALO: <br />"HALO Innovations, Inc. is dedicated to creating a healthy and safe sleeping environment for infants. Products include the SleepSackTM Wearable Blanket, Secure-FitTM Crib Sheet and the HALO Active-Airflow Crib Mattress. Three percent of each SleepSackTM purchase will be donated." <br /> <br />There are many other companies listed on the same site besides HALO. I thinks it's worth your time to check it out if you have a newborn on the way. There is very good advice on what you can do to reduce the risk of SIDS. <br /> <br />
Love this mattress! 2006-03-02 I bought two of these mattresses 6 months ago when I had premature twins as I was concerned about their respiratory issues (and SIDS, of course), and I am quite happy with my decision. The mattresses circulate fresh air and provide a gentle "swishing" sound for my babies to fall asleep to. My boys did not have any trouble getting to sleep on these mattresses. The top of the mattress is firm, but I do not think it is any firmer than the firm crib mattress that we had purchased for my daughter's crib three years ago. The top of the mattress is similar to a cot, made of the same type of firm, breathable material. A bonus to using this type of material is that when your baby spits up, it is quickly dried from underneath so s/he is not lying in a wet puddle until you notice it. The only reason that I did not give this product 5 stars is because the sheets are very hard to change. Per the Halo booklet, you can use standard crib sheets (which I found to be a little easier than the Halo ones), but the mattress is heavy and cumbersome to lift up. Having said that, I still love these mattresses and I will trade a little extra work for safety any day.
Not worth it! 2005-12-09 My daughter had passed away from SIDS six years ago, so when my second baby was born I was determined to purchase every product that may provide some protection or at least ease my mind. My daughter is almost three months old and will not sleep on this mattress. <br /> <br />The 'mattress' itself is harder then if she were to sleep on carpeted floor and the switch to turn on the air filter is impossible to reach. <br /> <br />After further research I found that this product is not endorced by the SIDS Alliance and many experts say to save your money because there is no proof that it will actually reduce the likelihood of SIDS. <br /> <br />I believe that a firm mattress is important but it needs to actually be a mattress and it should be a little soft and comfortable to at least allow her to fall asleep. <br /> <br />Save your money and don't purchase this mattress! It will not be useful if your baby will not even sleep on it.
Helps prevent SIDS but... 2005-12-05 This may help prevent SIDS but it did not fit our convertible crib. This is pretty much a plastic base (that was to big for the crib)and a nylon sling. I would describe this more as platform that a mattress pad goes on than a true mattress. There are no springs at all. Also the on/off switch for the fan was on the bottom of the mattress, in a place that was impossible to reach. Will be returning this item.
