Excellent scans & software
- Excellent scans and easy to use (I haven't tried slide adapter)
- Mine came with Adobe Elements 2 software, OCR, and even converts files to PDF!
- USB 2 is great if you're used to the old slow USB 1

Great Right Out of the Box!
I got home yesterday at 2:00 to find my CanoScan 8400F in the Amazon box on the floor, waiting for me. By 2:30, I had scanned photographs, slides, and my grandmother's old, hand-written recipes.

The scans look as good as the originals--sometimes better, as much of what I have is badly damaged. The software is easy to use, and there's hardly need for anything more than the Quick Start Guide.

This isn't the best scanner on the market. You want that? Pay $1,000. But if you want something that will do a terrific job for little cash, this is it.

It's simple, it's inexpensive, and you'll be smart for choosing it.

Good quality scans, but.....
The scanner worked fine for about a month, producing good looking scans as advertised. However, after 10-15 uses the ON/OFF switch did not power up the unit any more. The local Canon service lab replaced the entire scanner due to the faulty switch. It appears that some other reviewers on this web site experienced the same issue.

Very effective scanner
I'm using this scanner to capture my wife's watercolor artwork (for printing copies and digital portfolio records). The color and resolution on this scanner provide a very accurate reproduction of her work. I scan a painting in 4 sections, as they are larger than the flatbed glass of the scanner and then assemble the sections with PhotoMerge software in Photshop Elements. The process works very effectively, mostly due to the quality of the scanner output. I couldn't be more pleased with the 8400F. My artist wife finds the results to be very effective (and she is a stickler for color tones).

Excellent scanner
I needed a scanner that could handle slides. This scanner does an excellent job - quick and fast, and with excellent resolution. It also does a fine job with regular print scanning. Excellent quality for the price.
