A sort of culinary version of the Swiss army knife, this multi-purpose food tool is an indispensable item to pack for food preparation while picnicking, camping, or traveling. When closed, the compact tool resembles a very slim pair of binoculars and measures just 5-3/4 inches long and 1-1/2 inches wide. However, hidden within this sturdy, die-cast aluminum case are seven essential cooking tools for fixing on-the-go meals. The Food Tool includes a handy bottle cap opener carved into one side, a knife and a can opener that individually extend out one end, salt and pepper shakers that unscrew from the opposite end, and a corkscrew that swings out after removing a slide-off cover. The knife, corkscrew, can opener, and screwdriver are all constructed of high-quality stainless steel and the corkscrew also has a Teflon coating for smoother cork penetration. The salt and pepper shakers have secure snap-on lids to keep moisture out of seasonings.
While this is an innovative travel tool, there are a few glitches to watch out for. Users should exercise caution when reaching into a knapsack or bag for this tool--the lever that retracts the knife does not lock so the blade can easily slide out if jostled.
