Customer Reviews:
Cool but outdated This would be great for my brother, because for some reason he's really bad at finding words in a dictionary. Same with my friend's brother, who can't spell worth a darn.
However, for the serious Scrabble player, this probably isn't the best choice. It's based on the now-obsolete 3rd edition; the 4th edition is the latest incarnation of the Scrabble player's Bible and there are some significant differences. My favorite 2-letter "Z" word, "za," is nowhere to be found in the 3rd edition (it means pizza, by the way). Other changes, according to the back cover of the 4th edition, include "spelling variants such as colour and centre for game players in Canada." (Or U.S. players for whom it's handy :-D). It also "includes some 4,000 words not included in the previous edition."
Just thought this should be taken into consideration. --2006-12-20Electronic Scrabble Dictionary This is an excellent tool for playing Scrabble. We find it very helpful, simple to use and moves the game along quickly. The one we purchased from you was a replacement as the original one was lost. As you can see, we do like it and never play Scrabble without it. As a matter of fact, we convinced our friends to purchase one also which they did and enjoy the use of it very much. Much easier than using a regular Scrabble dictionary.
Also very educational. --2006-11-09For more than just Scrabble I bought this to play the games in it, as I like Scrabble. But I found that I also use it as a dictionary, to check spelling, for crosswords, for other word games and to verify a word's existence. The games are fun, I'll admit. I particularly like "Mystery Word"
Also, you are able to set your level of play, easy, intermediate and advanced.
It's quite a useful item, small enough to chuck into your bag if you're execting a wait at the doctor's office, but easy to read thatnks to a fairly large display screen.
I paid $50 at a retail store in town, even that to me was a deal. Amazon's a bit cheaper, so still a great deal. Recommended. --2006-10-24Great product, needs an update... This is a very valuable product for anyone who wants to improve their Scrabble(R) game. For checking definitions (not that serious scrabblers always care about that) it is much quicker than leafing through a dictionary. The Jumble Game is particularly valuable when set at the higher level for seven letter words. However, don't buy this product UNTIL Franklin updates it with the new Scrabble word list! Email Franklin at service@franklin.com and tell them you might be interested IF they would do the update! --2006-05-23Franklin Scrabble Companion The Franklin Scrabble Companion (FSC) was priced fairly, and delivered promptly. A nice touch was the cloth bag with draw-string into which the FSC is stored when not in use. This product has a tendency to go into failure modes - this is the second one I've purchased and both products have this same tendency. However, there is a simple fix when this happens - depressing with a narrow point a button on the back always seems to work. In our Scrabble Club, the allowable words are changing; unfortunately, the FSC does not include these new words (eg., QI, FE, KI, ZA, ...). Not sure what Franklin's plans are to update the current model.... --2006-02-20
