I live in Australia and I have to say I have all 4 of Sufjan Stevens albums except for that cat one, and I can say, I have never heard anything so beautiful, honest, loving, sad and welcoming in my life, if the composer and performer ever reads this then heres to you my friend, you have a fellow soul here to support you :)
Michigan is a great album before, seven swans and yes, Illinois is great as well, I can't wait for origon and other works on the US states by this artist.
Go Sufjan, 5 Stars For All 4 Albums
Amazing, fresh, new music

This and Illinois are the two best CDs I have bought in ages. The songs are so well written, more like orchestrated. This is intelligent indie for the well read listener.
beautiful, reminds me of home

i knew of sufjan stevens when i was growing up in michigan from the band marzuki. that band never went anywhere but it is a pleasure to see the fantastic and inovative musician stevens has grown into. it took a couple listens for this cd to really grow on me, but once it did it earned a permanent place on my list of favorites. perfect for any mood.
so colorful, brilliant

as an oil painter and a great enthusiast of americana and our mystical traditions as well as our culture sufjan has created a genre for the seekers in this country. a true voice, scared, bold, trembling, strong powerful it all is there exposed. like a series of lucian freud portraits it's all out there to see, brutal yet sensitive. if he keeps this up he will have all my top 50.. keep it up sufjan.
Goosebumps = Good Stuff

The "Illinoise" CD was what started me on Sufjan (Soof-yan, in case you're wondering). It remained on the top of Amoeba's best sellers for all 3 stores for 2 months, so curiousity got the best of me. I love the "Illinoise" record, and decided to buy the "Michigan" record based on these reviews.
IT'S ALL TRUE WHAT EVERYBODY (4-5 star ratings) SAYS!!
Goosebumps...
