All kitchen and sporting knives, whether professional quality or inexpensive, need a blade tune-up now and then. This electric sharpener produces razor-sharp edges using the same rapidly rotating Sapphirite grinding wheels used by professional shops. A two-stage system allows knives to be ground and sharpened on the Stage 1 half of the machine, and then honed on the Stage 2 half. Blade guides hold the knife at the ideal sharpening angle for each side of the blade, as it is drawn slowly towards the user and kept parallel to the countertop. The sharpener is suitable for knives made of alloy, carbon, or stainless steel; it is perfectly normal for sparks to fly when knives of high carbon steel come in contact with the Sapphirite wheels. Non-electric serrated knives that are only serrated on one side can also be sharpened with this machine. Three suction cups on the bottom hold the sharpener securely on a table or countertop, and two receptacles underneath catch metal filings for disposal. Very Impressed. You don't need your knives any sharper
I read all the reviews before buying and just had to write my review (my first ever of any product). I have worked in kitchens in the past and prepare meals regularly. I am a cajun cook and we chop crazy amounts of onions, celery, garlic, bell peppers and everything else from the garden. I also have a catfish pond, and I need a very sharp filet knife. So needless to say I have a drawer full of old filet and chef knives of varing quality and dullness. I have tried so many sharpening techniques and nothing I tried could restore the original sharpness without spending a ton of time an energy.
Well let me tell you, all the positive reviews are correct, this is a marvelous little gem and its the best $24 dollars I ever spent. Less than the new knife I was going to buy. I have knives of every metal imaginable and this little baby put an edge on them that is crazy sharp. I had to warn the wife about how sharp the knives were. Before if a burgular would come at me with one of my knives I would have died laughing, now I have to worry how they are stored in the drawer so not to accidently cut myself rummaging around in there.
Trust me, if you need your knives sharper than this baby gives you then you just are plain crazy. I believe I saw my onions cowering in the fridge! I had to cook a big seafood gumbo with extra onions and celery just to celebrate my new sharp knives.
This baby gets The Cajun seal of approval!!!

Don't bother with this lemon
After reading all the reviews, I decided to purchase this sharpener over the Thanksgiving Day weekend thinking it would sharpen my Henckel knives. However, after reading all the directions and trying it on several older practice knives, i've decided to return it after it ate through my knives and/or making the knives duller than I thought possible.

Until they come up with a better electric sharpener or I choose to purchase the expensive Chef's Choice M130 Professional Knife Sharpener, I guess I'll be returning to my whetstone.

What a pleasure to have sharp knives again!
This item arrived just in time to help me prepare for Thanksgiving -- chopping, slicing and dicing with my newly sharpened knives is SO much more pleasurable than hacking and whacking with dull ones! This little sharpener is a gem! It's sleek, modern look ties in well with my stainless and black kitchen. But more importantly, it does what is says -- it actually SHARPENS knives! It does it quickly, it does it easily, and it does it well. You can use this appliance right out of the box, and have beautifully sharpened and honed knives in just a few minutes. A pleasure to have really sharp knives
I have to agree with most of those who have reviewed this item and found it well worth the price. It's a pleasure to use really sharp knives. This machine took just a moment to put a razor edge on even old knives that had been in my odds-and-ends drawer getting banged up and dull. Doesn't take up much storage space either. A very good buy.
