  • Da only Priest album ya need!! 2005-11-12 All the other crap Sad Wings, Sin After Sin and Painkiller is pathetic garbage. This is the best priest album eva!! here Rob Halford sounds goood, I especially love turbo lover!!!!!!!
This is not what Priest is supposed to sound like!!! 2005-10-26 If you're looking for Priest songs that you can dance to,you'll find them right here. What's with all the keyboards??If you expect to hear hard, crunching, unforgiving metal that is prevalent in other Priest albums you won't find it here.On this commercial album,Judas Priest made a very sad attempt to be "hip" and produce an album with a "party" and "glam" sound to it which is what the market called for in the mid 1980's.Unfortunately this is an obvious sellout to that particular sound to appeal to a more "hip" audience and this is undeniably a grossly overproduced piece of garbage laden with dance friendly anthems such as,"Rock You All Around the World" which outraged a lot of fans of Judas Priest and I was one of them.I recommend buying every Priest album from 1979-1990 but definitely skip this one from '86!!!
Unfairly criticized 2005-10-02 As you can see, everyone seems to want to throw in their two cents worth on 'Turbo', so I guess I'm no different. But as a relatively new Priest fan, I listened to this record with an open and curious mind. True, it contains a lot more synthesizers and effects not typically heard from Judas Priest, and the inside photo of the band is hysterical, but generally 'Turbo' does not deserve to be dismissed.
I don't know what most metal fans have against keys and synthesizers. Many bands actually use synths in the studios and their shows to clean up the sound here and there so they don't sound like they're playing out of their parents' garage. Most metal records aren't this synth-heavy, but by the time 'Turbo' was released, Judas Priest had earned the right to take some creative risks. 'Turbo Lover' is a guilty pleasure, 'Locked In' is an overlooked gem, and 'Reckless' contains (SHOCK!) a ripping guitar solo. 'Out in the Cold' deserves special mention as this album's best track. Rob's layered vocals are perfectly done here.
Kiss made a disco song, Metallica played with a symphony, and Judas Priest used some keyboards. The world must go on. Give 'Turbo' a shot and it may grow on you.
Could have been better 2005-10-01 The other reviews are right. This CD has a very different feel/sound to it than any other Judas Priest CD, and it only comes off really well in a couple of the tracks. Turbo Lover is by far the best of them with an intensity that slowly builds as the song plays. Parental Guidance is a song I've liked for years, but didn't know it was a Judas Priest song because it sounds so different from other well-known tracks by this artist. Beyond those two, the rest of the songs don't really stick out in my mind as anything special. If you can, get these tracks on a greatest hits cd and don't worry about missing out on the rest of this disc.
The Right Sound at the Right Time 2005-09-17 Nevermind the neysayers, this is a fine album and although not one of Priests' best, it's still worth a shiny ducat. Turbo is an album that was very much a product of its time. Because Priest began experimenting with the synth sound, it sounds every bit the 80's era which spawned it. Many metal bands went through growing pains in the mid to late 80's and those that were not willing to adapt ended up as roadkill such as Deep Purple, Motorhead and Blue Oyster Cult. it was the time that demanded such. At least Priest didnt fall into the glam band abyss with Poison or L.A Guns. I would not confuse this new sound with "going commercial", or "selling out". Although this album has songs such as "Parental Guidance, Rock You All Around the World" and "Wild Nights, Hot and Crazy Days" that bring Twisted Sister or Quiet Riot to mind, they certianly redeem themselves with "Reckless", "Out in the Cold" "Locked In" and "Turbo Lover". These are great Priest songs that have plenty of hook in them and with multiple listinings this album absolutely does take hold. Turbo is a fine transition to the Priest's later sound.
