What a pleasure it was to view this DVD - it is beautifully produced, if a bit unimaginative.
The best part, of course, is the music. For some reason Fleck became fascinated with "picking" and took it to a whole new level.
There are some here in East Tennessee who disparage Fleck for having "commercialized" or "adulterated" bluegrass. Well, some of them don't like running water, either.
Fleck's contribution to music (and culture as a whole) will last long beyond his lifetime.

If you are a true Fleck and the Flecktones fan then you WILL get this. If you truly love improvisational music and a hint of good ol' bluegrass then you WILL get this. Best music DVD I have purchased yet!

I don't hand out 5 stars easily. I approached this DVD as I would any other of its kind: "Okay, impress me." I hear a lot of music and know a lot of musicians; I am one myself. It's easy to become inured to talent and have an almost so-what attitude. However, from the time I pressed Play until it ended, I was--what's the word?--astounded. Yep, that's it. Flabbergasted.
Bela and Co. have raised the standard for musicianship so high that most of the rest of us will have to be content with merely playing.

This is a wonderful combination of bluegrass, jazz and progressive music styles performed by worldclass musicians that take their respective instruments to places unique.

This DVD is amazing. it has so many different instruments and cultures that it's really hard not to like. It would make a good gift for any one half interested in music.
