Design flaw 2005-04-05 The Humminbird Piranha series is great, but it has a design flaw. The suction-cup mount forces the transducer to point in a single direction. Not good for a canoe without a transom. It always points off to one side of the canoe! The solution is a clamp-on transducer mount made by Tite-Lok which allows articulation in any desired direction. With a special price and no shipping charges (over [price]) also with no sales tax Amazon.com beat all local and big stores by at least [money], not a bad savings. The fishfinder arrived here in 2 days with normal shipping, really fast! My husband installed it in a short period of time on our pontoon boat and we went out the next day. He loves the built in surface water tempture gage, he had no problem swimming in 81 degree water, he knew it was not cold when he jumped in. He also liked the twin cone thing, he explaned to me that it showed the fish out to the side of the boat. The dark ones were under the boat and hollow ones were out to the side. Just because he could now see the fish under and to the side of the boat didn't mean he could catch them any better, but now we don't worry about hitting the engine on the bottom or on rocks. Boat props cost near a [price] here in california. This turned out to be a good present and investment. He did give me a choice of 6 different ones to pick from, the PIRANHA 5 was the best value for the money. He also wanted speed but that option cost another [price] on most machines and there is a speedometer in the boat already.
