Remotely displays food's temperatures and time elapsed while it's cookingProgrammable control panel for cooking by precise temperature or timeAlarm sounds when cooking time or desired temperature reachedStainless-steel probe goes into food, 4-foot cord leads to thermometerFolds flat for compact storage; magnetic back for mounting on metal surface
This thermometer with probe allows you to gauge the internal temperature of whatever you are cooking without opening the oven door, which is convenient and saves energy (as well as saving your face from a blast of heat). It also has a timer so you can be reminded when it's time to go check for doneness. Opening the oven to check on a food's temperature means wasting the cook's time and losing oven temperature and moisture--not to mention a face full of steam. This thermometer prevents those problems. Insert the instrument's 6-inch stainless-steel probe into a roast beef or turkey and monitor the time and temperature (from 32 to 392 degrees F) on the thermometer's large digital display, which connects to the probe with a 4-foot cord. The control panel sets cooking time and temperature, and an alarm sounds when either is reached. Fully opened, the thermometer/timer is 5 inches high, but it folds flat for compact storage. Magnets on the back permit it to be temporarily mounted on a metal surface. --Fred Brack

Customer Reviews:
Won't last but at $7.99 who cares As every review notes the temperature probe just quits working. But Amazon, this December 2006 had these on sale for $7.99. I bought two to replace the previous one that failed. --2006-12-22Taylor Rocks! I have owned my Taylor for over three years and use it quite regularly, mostly for BBQ. I have never had a bit of trouble with it. Maybe this is due to the fact that my BBQ temps never exceed 250° and my internal meat temps never exceed 200°.
I am a menber of a BBQ forum and most members prefer Taylor. The Poulder is the brand that will crap out on you.
For those having difficulty with probe breakdown: Moisture often collects where the mesh wire meets the probe causing it to spaz out. Boil the probe in oil. This forces the moisture out and almost always give you a good reusable probe. Disclaimer: This does not always work and messing with boiling oil, moisture and metal can cause severe burns. Becareful! --2006-11-29Garbage This thermometer never worked correctly. For oven temps. over 350 the probe is worthless, it reads the oven temp., not the temp. of the meat.
Save your money and buy and old fashoined one. --2006-11-23Excellent Kitchen & Outdoor Grill accessory We use the Taylor Digital Oven Thermometer/Timer almost every day either in the kitchen to time the cooking of an item or to get the correct temperature of that beef roast in the oven. And I use it when I grill to get the correct doneness of my hamburgers & steaks. Great product and easy to use!!
--2006-11-13Mom's little helper This works great with a timer and temperature guage that can work simultaneously. The knowlege that the alarm bell will keep me informed of internal temperature, gives me a little more freedom to concentrate on preparation of other dishes without worrying about 1st item. --2006-11-10
