But this simple stovetop popper changes all that. It really does make awesome, fresh-popped corn that might make you start renting videos instead. The sturdy aluminum pan has a clip-on lid with a stay-cool wooden handle. A turn crank on the handle spins the key element: the stainless steel stirring system that keeps the corn moving across the bottom of the pan, for even heat and oil distribution, ensuring the best popping results. The lid has steam vents, to help keep the popcorn dry and crisp. The enclosed booklet is a wonderful resource, with not only clear and detailed instructions, but also dozens of recipes and popcorn history and lore. These are folks who really do know their popcorn, and the results are outstanding. --Cynthia Nims

Customer Reviews:
Lots of fun - and popcorn tastes GREAT. I've had one of these for about 5 years and love it. It eat a lot of popcorn. I'm dieting so I use an airpopper a lot. Low-cal but also very bland. Convenience likes the microwave popping bags - easy but not the tastiest. The stovetop popper gives popcorn with the very best texture and flavor in just a few minutes. The biggest hassle is washing it afterwards. The hand-crank agitator does a great job of pushing the popped corn up out of the way and agitating the unpopped kernels back down into the oil. Turn on the heat. Pour in a thin layer of oil. Add the corn. Close the lid and shake until the popping starts then crank happily for about 90 seconds until the popping dies down. Be careful of steam when opening it up. Enjoy!
Caveats - use an oil that is high-heat tolerant. Peanut oil is perfect and tastes great. Use good (and fresh) corn. Have a big bowl handy!
Be creative with toppings. Butter and salt are fine but try parmesan cheese, cajun spice powder, sriracha hot sauce, "Brady Street Sprinkle" from Penzeys, etc... --2006-12-20It's supposed to be thin! Thin metal doesn't hold a lot of heat. This lets it warm up quickly (non-soggy popcorn) and cool down quickly (no burnt popcorn when you're done!). Aluminum conducts heat better (and holds less heat) than stainless steel, which makes it the better choice for this.
I think proper heat setting was key here, you need to follow their recommendation on how long it should take to pop a batch from start to stop. If your heat is too low, your popcorn will be too chewy. Complaints about deformed metal might be from putting the heat too high. I usually go about a medium high, both on my old electric coil ctove and my new glass flattop. I have found that preheating the burner for a minute helps, just for the the it takes me to measure the oil and corn into the popper.
Been using my popper for about 3 years now, with no problems at all. Yep, it took a few tries to get the heat right, but once I did it's been popping perfect corn. --2006-12-13Great Pop Corn I love this popper! I have had just about any kind of popper you can think of from an air popper to the kitchen skillet. This by far is the best. I just put a little oil in the bottom with the corn and in just a few we have fresh old fashion pop corn. It's yummy! We put a little salt on it and that's it. My only regret with this product is that the clear part on the lid is a little flimsy. It's only probably a matter of time before it's to cloudy to see through, other than that no problems at all. --2006-12-10YOU WON'T BE SORRY I had seen pictures of this device for years, but thought it was an older design and was no longer available. I can't tell you how much I LOVE this thing. I have long been crazy about popcorn, prefering the oil-method electric poppers rather than the ones using air (the sale doesn't stick to air-popped corn). After the failure of my electric model, I bought this popper and have been happily using it since. Easy to use and clean (wipe clean with a paper towel) and it uses very little oil, making the popcorn healthy as well. It actually does work as fast as they claim, less than 3 minutes from turning on the burner to bowl. This is the world's best popcorn popper. --2006-12-07It's a great popper I've owned this popper for 3 years. It makes great popcorn, even the cheap store brands pop up very nicely. The first time I used it I burnt some of the corn. But was the learning experience in which I learned the exact heat setting and just how to judge when it is done. I have never burnt corn since that time. This popper pops about 99.9% of the kernels when you learn how to use it. I do shake it a little in addition to the stirring. I read a review in which someone reported the bottom has deformed. I would have to say that person is using too high a heat as the one I have has had absolutely no problems in that area. I use this popper on an electric smooth top range and the flat bottom is very well suited to it. I would say the only bad thing about it is that it is manual operated. While I am very satisfied with it, I am thinking about an electric operated popper. --2006-12-06
