  • METAL EXPERIMIMENTS OF THE 1970'S..... THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE GOOFY 2005-12-01 The B.O.C. hows your father? These guys had countless albums throughout the seventies and eighties. They had some pretty rockin' stuff for sure. However, I've never really found a BOC album that I could call "legendary" by any means. These guys were in no way the most talented metal band ever, but they did help in pioneering the metal sound in the mid seventies, which is worth some attention, at least. Most notably of course is DON'T FEAR THE REAPER, the most well known song in their collection. This track came originally in 1976, about four or five years into their recording career. The original album also contained the track THIS AIN'T THE SUMMER OF LOVE. Both tracks are represented here, the former a masterpiece, the latter, one goofy assed song for damn sure. Hey, they were pioneers... they can't all be winners. BUT HEY... don't think these guys wasted it all on one song. This greatest hits package is the BEST collection, and most complete career span available on one disc (there is a two, but you better know what you are doing before going that route.) The first track CITIES ON FLAME is simply rockin! Nice cool riff and some scorchin' solos. There are ups and downs along the course of the album, I won't lay it all out for you. If you only know of DONT FEAR THE REAP, I'll tell you, most of it doesn't sound like that song in the least, except for maybe ASTRONOMY (I hate to say, but I like the METALLICA cover of this one better.) Songs that WILL stand out (at least did for me) the most are the big hits. GO-GO- GODZILLA! Such a cheesy song, yet beautifully cheesy if you ask me. BURNIN' FOR YOU is an excellent early eighties offering. The rest is not for me to say, I love to hate this band... yet I love to hate it often which is why I personally get much play out this CD.
I'm 13, take me seriously 2005-11-17 Im 13 years old and my friends make fun of me because I enjoy Blue Oyster Cult, which they say is overrated crap. Truth be told BOC is incredibly underrated and deserves at least some notoriety or recogintion. If they can rate no talent Boston so well, why the Hell not BOC? Anyways, This is an excellent compilation that gives more good songs than Super Hits compilation, but does not put on so many needless tracks no one cares about on it. It includes such classics as Don't Fear the Reaper, Burnin' For You, and Astronomy. Overall, it's an awesome album and if you're looking for good "thinking man's" hard rock, look here.
B.O.C.'s "Best Of Classic's or B.O.C.'s/ B.O.C.'s 2005-08-02 A great collection of B.O.C.'s best known music. Digitally remastered for great sound quality. Even though the first 2 tracks don't sound as good as the others, it still sounds great with a noticeable difference from the original cuts.. Great selection for any B.O.C. fan wheather a hardcore fan or fair weather fan. This selection covers a variety of musical styles of the group, during their history. So put on those headphones and "kick out the jams" and remember how awesome they were in concert. Maybe listen to a little Black Sabbath also, (Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules) and go back to the days of "The Black and Blue Tour of the early 80's. WHAT A SHOW...
an awesome collection from new york's greatest band 2005-06-19 dont fear the reaper is a superb single disc compilation from the greatest rock band to come out of long island ny.this is rock music at it's finest.all their big hits like CITIES ON FLAME WITH ROCK AND ROLL,RED AND THE BLACK,FLAMING TELEPATHS,DONT FEAR THE REAPER and the ballads I LOVE THE NIGHT and BURNIN FOR YOU are present in this compilation which is good value for money.for a better overview of this great band I suggest you to get WORKSHOP OF THE TELESCOPES a double disc box set.very highly recommended
Best to start with 2005-01-21 Other than listening "(Don't Fear) the Reaper" in a Columbia Rock classic's album, I was never into the Blue Oyster Cult band until I bought this compilation of best hits, which needless to say, remains a fair enough entrance to the band for first-time listeners. I have checked the reviews that have not given this album enough credits to merit a five star, yet I would say it is good enough to introduce you to this often underrated band.
    Don
