The more than 200 memorable photographs include portraits by Sharon J. Wohlmuth. A dozen essay-length personal profiles by Carol Saline, narrative captions and extended quotes provide a context for the lives reflected in each picture. From the well-known to the unknown, the women portrayed embody the many incarnations of the American woman.
