The gentle rhyming and gorgeous, tissue-paper collage illustrations in this classic picture book make it a dog-eared favorite on many children's bookshelves. On each page, we meet a new animal who nudges us onward to discover which creature will show up next: "Blue Horse, Blue Horse, What do you see? I see a green frog looking at me." This pattern is repeated over and over, until the pre-reader can chime in with the reader, easily predicting the next rhyme. One thing readers might not predict, however, is just what kinds of funny characters will make an appearance at the denouement! Children on the verge of reading learn best with plenty of identifiable images and rhythmic repetition. Eric Carle's good-humored style and colorful, bold illustrations (like those in The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Grouchy Ladybug, and Have You Seen My Cat?) have earned him a prominent place in the children's book hall of fame. (Baby to Preschool) --Emilie Coulter A big happy frog, a plump purple cat, a handsome blue horse, and a soft yellow duck-- all parade across the pages of this delightful book. Children will immediately respond to Eric Carle's flat, boldly colored collages. Combined with Bill Martin's singsong text, they create unforgettable images of these endearing animals.

Customer Reviews:
color This book teaches about animals and color. It also rhymes, which is a good way to teach your toddlers or young chidren to learn about different animals and colors. To be honest, I learn some colors by this book.
-Jamie Vue- --2006-12-06A favorite My son was given this book for his first birthday and has loved it ever since. From the time he said his first word (kitty) and could identify the cat's picture in the book, he has had a wonderful time learning the animals' names. The cadence makes for a nice sounding read for him as well. I have enjoyed how the book has grown with him, first learning the animals, then making their sounds when he sees them and soon he will be learning colors, and someday reading it himself. --2006-12-02Toddlers love it My Toddlers love this book. They're two and they help me read the story now. It's one of their favorites. --2006-11-27A+ Book for my 4 year old Daughter My 4 year old Daughter used this book in her pre-school class, and enjoyed it very much. --2006-11-10My 3 kids Adore this book I got this book by request of my son (3), who knew the book from daycare (they sing a song with the text of the book). Since we got the book it must have been sung over a hundred times!. My son take the book and pretend he's reading by singing the text while looking at the pictures, he knows all animals in it (also all animals from similar books like, panda bear and polar bear, wich I also got for them). My girls (2 year old twins) also love the book and try to do the same as their brother singing the little song. This book is a must have for the creative parent! --2006-11-10
