In another installment of its award-winning Eyewitness series, DK pulls out all the stops--as usual--with snappy pacing, catchy writing, ominous mood music, and clip after hair-raising clip of stock disaster footage. In a tight half-hour, Natural Disasters explores the origins and effects of every act of God imaginable, from volcanoes to tornadoes to asteroid impacts. Classic DK visuals reinforce each idea: a cute, seismograph-watching bunny illustrates a discussion on whether animals can predict disasters, while blue army men (a cold front) face off against red army men (a warm front) to show how hurricanes are born. At times, Eyewitness: Natural Disasters may overstate (avalanches are breathlessly called "the white death") and oversimplify (lava doesn't exactly shoot out of the Earth's core), but it succeeds in creating excitement and inspiring interest in some pretty fascinating phenomenon. --Paul Hughes
