  • Bill O’Reilly is the very embodiment of the idea of a Culture Warrior—and in this book he lives up to the title brilliantly, with all the brashness and forthrightness at his command. He sees that America is in the midst of a fierce culture war between those who embrace traditional values and those who want to change America into a “secular-progressive” country. This is a conflict that differs in many ways from the usual liberal/conservative divide, but it is no less heated, and the stakes are even higher.

In Culture Warrior, Bill O’Reilly defines this war and analyzes the competing philosophies of the traditionalist and secular-progressive camps. He examines why the nation’s motto “E Pluribus Unum” (“From Many, One”) might change to “What About Me?”; dissects the forces driving the secular-progressive agenda in the media and behind the scenes, including George Soros, George Lakoff, and the ACLU; and dives into matters of race, education, and the war on terror. He also shows how the culture war has played out in such high-profile instances as The Passion of the Christ, Fahrenheit 9/11, the abuse epidemic (child and otherwise), and the embattled place of religion in public life—with special emphasis on the war against Christmas. Whatever controversies are roiling the nation, he fearlessly confronts them—and no one will be in the dark about which side he’s on.

Culture Warrior showcases Bill O’Reilly at his most eloquent and impassioned. He is an unrelenting fighter for the soul of America, and in this book he fights the good fight for the traditional values that have served this country so well for so long.

    Customer Reviews:
  • O'Reilly is a GREAT WRITER
Unlike liberals who use ghost writers, Bill O'Reilly is the real deal. This book exposes the ACLU, George Soros, the New York Times, and other anti-American liberal extremist organizations for what they are. Just read the reviews on this book, this book drives liberals up the wall -- and they haven't even read it!!

I have purchased nine copies of this book and I will be giving them away as Christmas presents. That's right liberals, I used the word "Christmas". I hope that offends you. Five stars for a great book from a great American.

  • Want one of those windbreakers
The book...I don't get it. If you listen to O'Reilly a few times, and you like him, just keep watching. You won't find anything new in the book, and cable already costs enough.

More important is the bizarre front cover. The American flag I can get. O'Reilly's name in bigger font than the title (or am I mixing up the two?) I can understand. Ditto the entire red, white and blue motif. But what's up with the windbreaker? For a moment, I thought he was sailing and the flag is flying behind his yacht? I know he needed something blue in there to go against the letters, but...

Anyway, the book doesn't have any info on how to get one of those jackets, otherwise it seemed to be printed on paper.

  • A Book Where 1 Star Reviews Are Actually A Good Thing.
First point. Bill O'Reilly is controversial, and he knows it. He himself stated in his book that he is as polarizing as Howard Cossell and President George W. Bush. Thus, I was not surprised to see an average rating of three stars for this book. My hunch, though, is that is because there are a large number of five star reviews and a large number of one star reviews. (And I have a hunch many will find my review "not helpful" solely because I gave this book more than one star.)

Second point. If you are considering this book, briefly skim all the reviews. Considering how controversial O'Reilly is, consider every five star and every one star review as a sign that he achieved his goal as an author. In fact, the more hateful the review is, consider that as more of a reason to buy the book. Note carefully every review that has 2-4 stars. If you want a signal that this book is not worth your money, you will find it by the number of three star reviews. (NOTE: I have purposely not looked at any of the reviews, so I don't know how many reviews there are, or if there are any 3 star reviews.) Why do I say this? If a book by O'Reilly is neither fires up his fans nor angers his foes, he's failed.

By the way, just as this review may get a lot of not helpful votes merely because it does not help give ammunition for the O'Reilly haters, I also challenge those who read the reviews to see how many of the 1 star reviewers actually read the book. My hunch is some of these one star reviews are reviews of O'Reilly, not his book.

I have read this book. I agree with O'Reilly, and if he's right, as I hinted, you will find a lot of people saying he's wrong. Please read this book and judge for yourself.

Allow me to make some additional comments. I have attempted to read other political books, such as James Hirsch's "Tales From The Left Coast", David Limbaugh's "Persecution", and "Slander" and "How To Talk To A Liberal" by Ann Coulter. I never read any of those four all the way through. "Culture Warrior" is an exception. It is a balance between arguing his case and giving biographical examples.

One other strength: O'Reilly paints with a narrow brush. Hatemongers use wide brushes, condemning anyone that does not agree with them, putting them all in the same box. O'Reilly does not do so. He distinguishes between people who are secular progressive (referred to as S-P in his book) culture warriors from those who are sympathetic. He points out where he thinks S-Ps have a valid point. He avoids personal attacks, and even points out that he has a problem with those on his side who personaly attack those he disagrees with (e.g. Ann Coulter, Mike Savage, as well as adversarial smear merchants like Al Franken).

O'Reilly separates political ideology from the culture war. He states that the battle is not Democrat vs. Republican or conservative vs. liberal but rather tradionalist vs. secular progressive. He points out that there are liberals who are traditionalists (Joseph Lieberman, Evan Bayh [though I would argue about him], and African Americans as a whole).

Some will say there is no such thing as a culture war. I challenge you to read this book open mindedly, and see if he convinces you that he is right. You may not agree, but it is better to read him for yourself than to listen to those who condemn him without reading him.

  • Bill O'Reilly speaks his mind
As several of the reviewers have commented; You will either like this book or hate it. Today in America, everything breaks down along strong philosophical lines and/or beliefs: Liberal or Conservative. Secular or spiritual. And on and on. The days of interactive discourse have given way to loud and often obnoxious pontificating from all sides: The great new game of the "Shout-over", or who can out shout who. Meanwhile, the TRUTH is the big loser in all this as each side tries to out spin (no pun intended) the other.
Enter Bill O'Reilly and the "No Spin Zone". I am a true, traditional Reagan conservative. I have fought for my country and served in armed combat 3 times. I live by the code of Duty, Honor, Country. I believe in family and the basic worth of each individual person. When I read the last 15 pages of Mr. O'Reilly's book concerning "The Code of the Traditional Warrior", I was humbled. If nothing else he spells out the foundation of what makes this country great. You can argue about various philosophies, and discuss who makes a better politician, but in the end it is you that Mr. O'Reilly is talking to. Yes he is bombastic and sometimes over-the-top but he is sincere in what he believes and that is the measure of any man.
It is a good, quick read and at 200 pages does not weigh one down with endless ideology or heavy deep thought. It is the opinions of an honest man who believes in what he is saying. We may agree or disagree with what he says but it is the journey that counts. I am sure that with Bill O'Reilly there is no middle ground.

  • My mom warned me about about SPs in the early 70s
Bill does a good job exposing the motives of the far left SPs. They have gained a lot of ground since the 1970s and want to change everything good about America. If you are a regular viewer of the show, you know all this already. The far left is on a sardonic downward spiral of hate, fuled by self administered propaganda. It's time to get real. Most liberals haven't a clue how the economy works, they never passed high school calculus let alone did any post-graduate work in the field. Have you?
